MOTION

For March 25, 2010 Annual General Meeting

HILLHURST SUNNYSIDE COMMOUNITY ASSOCIATION

WHEREAS the Mission Statement of the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association is

To preserve and enhance a healthy and vibrant quality of life for all residents of our Community

AND WHEREAS:  The City of Calgary has approved construction of another pedestrian bridge across the Bow River, terminating in the Sunnyside community

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED:

That the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association take the leadership in establishing a community Task Group that will prioritize the area from 10^th Street East and will:

A)   Review and report on the implications and probable consequences for Sunnyside           and the east part of Hillhurst of the new bridge.

B)   Identify all public owned land within the above noted area

C)   Request the City, in co-operation with the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association to undertake a land use study, including zoning, by-laws and regulations, existing and proposed for  Sunnyside

D)   Review the options for providing diverse and affordable housing for residents of the community,

E)   Consult with the BRZ regarding opportunities for the revitalization of 10^th St.

F)   Provide support to those proposing affordable housing on the Safeway Site

G)   Research and identify land use and private land assembly patterns in the noted community areas,

H)   Sponsor a public meeting at Sunnyside School on Tuesday May 25, 2010 for all residents of Sunnyside to discuss the land use impact of the new bridge

I)   Support those involved in the long term viability of the Sunnyside Community School, and

J)   Hold an Extraordinary General Meeting on September 23, 2010 to review the progress regarding the above issues
