Volunteers

HSCA is always looking for volunteers! We need volunteers for community events like Clothing Distribution Days, Bow River Clean-up, Charity Casinos, Seniors Christmas Dinner, and the list certainly goes on. We also need volunteers to serve on our Standing Committees and Special Task Force Groups.

Volunteers currently needed:

Standing Committees

  • Community Planning Committee (CPC reviews and makes recommendations on applications for development permits in the area. Interested individuals should Contact David White, Chair of the CPC at hscaplanningcommittee@gmail.com)
  • Community Vitalization Committee (discusses a broad range of topics and works on initiatives designed to promote a healthy and vibrant community! Interested individuals should contact Kerri Treherne, Chair of the CVC at kerritreherne@hotmail.com)

Special Task Forces

  • HSCA Communications Task Force (Still openings for interested Task Force volunteers. Contact James Michi at hsca_exec@msn.com or phone 403-283-0554 ext 221)
  • Farmers’ Market Task Force (Task Force work is near completion – Farmers’ Market started June 2nd! However, the Task Force will continue to meet throughout summer in an advisory capacity)
  • HSCA Community Mural Task Force (currently looking for volunteers aged 12 – 112! Interested individuals should send an email to James Michi at hsca_exec@msn.com or phone 403-283-0554 ext 221)

General Volunteer Opportunities

HSCA Farmers’ Market

  • Flyer Delivery - time is flexible; we need people to go door to door within Hillhurst and Sunnyside to drop off small flyers to spread the word about the return of the market prior to each market day this season
  • On Site Parking Advisor - each market day 3:30 – 6 pm; shift can be split; 1+ volunteers to help direct customers to alternative parking areas when the HSCA parking lot is full
  • Bouncy Castle Attendant – each market day 3:30 – 7 pm, shift can be split; 1+ volunteers required to ensure no more than the maximum number of children can be in the castle at one time
  • Balloon Attendant – each market day 3:30 – 7 pm, shift can be split; 1+ volunteers required to blow up helium balloons for people at the market

We have lots of other volunteer opportunities in and around the community: short-term, long-term and ongoing.
