We usually have so many pathway cleanup volunteers that we are finished our section of pathway in far less than the time alotted. I also find that the pathway/river cleanup job can be a bit treacherous due to the thick underbrush and steep riverbanks; cleaning up in the playgrounds or along the sidewalks in the neighbourhood might make participation easier for people who aren't quite as agile. I think this would get a lot of people out to meet their neighbours, and working together would help foster some good community spirit. Count me in! I think this is a wonderful idea!
