New Continuing Care Strategy

In an attempt to alleviate the current wait situation, which has 800 to 1000 seniors currently occupying acute care beds, while awaiting placement in long-term care, the Alberta government has developed a new continuing care strategy. This strategy is intended to move towards a more client-focused system that puts health and personal care needs first and promotes increased choice of where to receive these services.

There are five strategies intended to address community supports, infrastructure, payment for accomodations funding and equitable drug coverage.

If you would like to learn more about this strategy and how it might affect current and future seniors, the report is available on-line at: www.seniors.gov.ab.ca or you can call 1-800-642-3853 for a copy.
