Bow River Flow a Great Success

The Bow River Flow attracted thousands of Calgarians to the first celebration of the Memorial Drive Parkway!

Bow River Flow is an occasion for Calgarians to gather and celebrate life along the Bow River and Memorial Drive Parkway. Imagine a great flowing commons through the heart of our city – an event that is inclusive of and accessible to all Calgarians – an invitation for individuals, families, after-church congregations, tai chi enthusiasts, to come together to mingle, and to enjoy a leisurely walk or ride along Memorial Drive, or a float down the Bow River.

It is an occasion for Calgarians to take some time on the last Sunday in August to slow down and collectively reflect on our good fortune – to leave behind the hustle and bustle of our busy work lives and the noise and hassle of our cars and traffic and simply relax, and enjoy Calgary’s beautiful Memorial Parkway, one of the gems of our city.

CPC Decisions

July 15, 2009

411 16 Street. Single detached dwelling.
Decision:  Not supported.  There are currently 3 lots that could be subdivided.  The only one under development at this time is the centre lot.  The proposed home would require several relaxations to bylaw requirements (lot coverage, front setback), and there are several ARP guidelines that are not addressed, such as height compatibility.  This home will be the benchmark for future development in this block so it should be kept within the guidelines.

1643 Westmount Road. Single detached dwelling.
Decision:  Not supported.  The home is the 4th house in a group of 5.  The home has a full third floor which adds some significant massing at the front and the back.  The roofline does nto result in a complementary appearance to the existing streetscape.

211 11A Street. Multi-unit development.
Decision:  Supported.  This is the second application for this site.  The first one was approved by the City and appealed by the neighbours.  While the original application maxed out the maximum building envelope, the current incarnation is now mroe in line with the neighbourhood and meets all bylaw and ARP requirements.  The development now appears as two single family homes with two additional units hidden in the rear.

NeighbourWoods a Success

The NeighbourWoods Tree Planting Day held on October 13 was a huge success.  It was a beautiful sunny day, and community residents picked up their trees (approximately 100 in total), as well as donated snacks, coffee, and door prizes!

One of the ways that the tree pickup day was made so much more fun was that some of our corporate business neighbours responded to a request for door prizes, snacks, and warming liquids for the City crew and the early rising Saturday morning neighbours!  We had many residents express their gratitude.

Please continue to support these local merchants who responded so generously to the HSCA and NeighbourWoods Project.
