Getting more for less!

In the December issue of the Voice you may have noticed that we provided the same membership registration form
that has appeared in every issue of the Voice for the past two years. Well, I am very pleased to be able to make a correction to the information provided on that form. MEMBERSHIP PRICES ARE GOING DOWN IN 2011!

Currently our membership fee structure is set up in such a way that Residents and Non-residents pay different fees.
However, we have come to realize that we continue to provide service to a greater number of individuals and families
residing outside the boundaries of the Community Association. For example, we provide services to seniors in 11 other
communities across NW and NE Calgary and for the past few years, those seniors have had to pay an extra $5/year
– that’s something we felt should be remedied. Also, we would very much like to entice people from all over the city
to join HSCA as well as their own Community Association, as we know that there are lots of people who spend a great
deal of time in our community and who often attend popular events at the centre and participate in the vast array of programs that we offer that may not be offered at their own local Community Association. In response, we’re flattening out our membership fee structure so that Residents and Non-Residents will be paying the same low price. (In
accordance with our Association’s By-Laws, Non-Resident members, while continuing to enjoy the same benefits as
Resident members, will not be entitled to vote at the AGM).

In addition to lowering the membership fees, we have also fought to add value to your membership. In 2011 we’re very
pleased to be introducing a new Membership Incentives Program! What this means is that in addition to reduced rates on
hall rentals and various programs, your 2011 HSCA Membership will now also entitle you to a discount at a number of lo-
cal businesses including: Swizzlesticks Salon & Spa, Gratitude Café, Higher Ground Café, Sunnyside Natural Market and
Kensington Art Supply!

So what’s it going to cost you to acquire this new and improved membership in 2011?
If you’re a family – only $20 (down from $35 in 2010)
If you’re a single – only $10 (down from $20 in 2010)
If you’re a senior – only $5 (same low price as 2010)

Our goal is to sell 1000 memberships in 2011 – that’s twice as many memberships as we sold in 2010! We’re confident that this new membership fee structure will enable us to do just that, but we’re going to need your help. Please tell your friends and neighbours to check out the Voice and the website to learn more about the programs, services and community events that we offer here at HSCA and consider joining the growing community movement.

Best wishes for the New Year!

The Big Question

“What does a Community Association really do?” Typically when people ask this question, they’ll often preface it with what they already know about Community Associations: the renting out of hall space and the maintenance of facilities like outdoor pools and gymnasiums. Well, yes.  A lot of the Community Association’s business does revolve around those things. But to think of a Community Association as merely the operator of a Community Centre would be more than an oversimplification; it would be a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the agency.

> As the population ages this issue will increase

> elder Abuse can have critical consequences

You can make a difference…

  • Take time to support / connect / respond
