Practice and game times will be available at the time of registration.

All participants must purchase a HSCA family membership.

HSCA memberships cost $20 for both residents and non-residents.

What's Happening in That Building?

Peddie Roofing has been working on the replacement of the centre’s 20,000 sq/ft roof since mid-October and the project should be completed by the end of November.  This was a major facility life cycle renovation and once everything is tallied up, the total price tag will be around $200,000! We are very happy with the team from Peddie Roofing and their emphasis on safety, particularly the safety of the children and youth who utilize our facility on a daily basis. We should add that the association received a tremendous amount of support from the City of Calgary through the Capital Conservation Grant program. In 2010, HSCA took on more than $250,000 in capital improvement projects (we also replaced an aging automated person lift and a 100 gallon hot water tank and recirculation lines) and the City of Calgary picked up the tab for half of that work. So a big thanks to the City of Calgary’s Community and Neighbourhood Services for all their help and support!

What else?  You might have noticed that we’ve thrown up a banner on the front of our building that directs people to
our new website, Facebook and Twitter pages. Perhaps you are visiting our website for the first time because of this banner? If that’s the case then please let us know. If you’re on Facebook and/or Twitter and you aren’t yet a friend or follower of Hillhurst-Sunnyside then you should probably add us. This is one of the best ways to get up-to-date information on what’s happening in and around the HSCA centre.

The banner is currently enjoying its temporary home on the 5th Avenue façade of the HSCA Centre. In the spring of 2011 we will be moving forward with the HSCA Community Mural Project at which point we’ll have to find a new home for the banner.  The HSCA Community Mural Project was first conceived in May of 2010 with the idea that we might be able to get something beautiful up by the end of summer. However, we quickly came to realize that murals don’t actually paint (or pay for) themselves and so we reached out and formed a strategic alliance with Urban Youth Worx and All Nations Theatre (www.urbanyouthworx.org) a Calgary-based not-for-profit that works with youth to help create healthy, engaged and vibrant communities through the creative process.

Urban Youth Worx has been extremely helpful in fundraising for the Mural Project and also helped us to recruit Tim Belliveau to serve as the lead artist for the project. Tim is one of the founding members of the Bee Kingdom – you can check out their work at www.beekingdom.ca. For information on these or any other community association initiative please feel free to contact James Michi at hsca_exec@msn.com, or by phone at 403-283-0554 ext. 221.

Hillhurst Sunnyside Out of School Program!

We’d like to introduce you to the Hillhurst Sunnyside Out of School Care Program, more commonly know as OOSC.  For any of you are not familiar with us, we are a fully licensed before and after-school program operating out of the Community Association.  We are open Mondays through Fridays and currently licensed to take up to 56 elementary school children, Grades 1 to 6.

Here at OOSC we aim to create a program where the individual needs of all our children can be met through a wide variety of creative, educational and recreational activities.  In recognizing each child as an individual we attempt to offer as diverse a range of activities as possible, so that developmental needs of each individual child can be met on a daily basis.  Through these choices we hope to enhance the physical, social, intellectual, creative and emotional wellbeing of our children in a safe and secure environment where they feel they have the room to grow and flourish.
